PORTUGUESE PANCAKES

                   3 eggs
                   1 tsp. baking powder
                   8 slice bread
                   1 1/2 cups flour
                   1/2 tsp. salt
         Beat egg and add flour, salt and baking powder, mix well.
         Add enough water to make a paste smooth enough to spread.
         Dip bread into the batter, a half-slice at a time
until both sides
                 are covered with the batter.
         Drop bread into the hot fat.
         When done to a light brown, remove from frying pan and
                 drain to remove excess fat.
         Spread with butter and sprinkle with sugar.
